Project 01 · Residential

Oliva

Location
Harpenden
Project
New-build passive house
Material
elZinc Oliva · 0.7 mm zinc
Completed
2025–26

This project formed the rear section of a new passive house, built after the original property was removed. Copperclad completed the standing-seam zinc roof together with the gutters, downpipes and bespoke rainwater heads.

A key detail was the rooflight, which sits at approximately 45 degrees to the direction of the roof sheets. A conventional back gutter was not suitable, so the surrounding zinc had to be individually cut, folded and soldered to form a watertight detail and direct water correctly around the opening.

The zinc roof also runs into a valley adjoining a tiled roof, requiring careful detailing between the two roofing systems. Zinc was specified by the architect, with the final elZinc Oliva finish selected by the client from the available colour options.
